This one’s a bit of an inside joke. My wife and I recently tried to play Sorry!, one of those classics of childhood. I have so many great memories of playing board games as a child: Parcheesi, Candy Land, Chutes and Ladders. I thought some old-school gaming would be a good idea. I was wrong.
Almost instantly, all the terrible memories came flooding back. The jeers, the snide comments, the sarcastic smiles as opponents bump your pawns back to Start. Sorry! is a simple game with a core mechanic designed to frustrate rather than entertain. Any pleasure derived from the game is pure schadenfreude. I didn’t finish the game and haven’t looked back since.
